Are your favourite movie characters the bad guy?

We love our movie good guys who have loved and lost. But are they really that good? Is there an alternative theory to their tragedies? We look at some of our movie characters who have experienced loss and reexamine whether they are truly the tragic ones.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles: Del Griffith is Con Man and a Serial Killer

Movie Character Takedowns

Del Griffith’s wife died years before the events of Planes, Trains and Automobiles. But we only have Del’s word for it. Del might be a serial killer on the road and Neal Page and his family might be their next victim. Perhaps during the crash scene, Neal saw Del as the Devil for a different reason? It was his subconscious telling us that Del is a really dangerous guy. And by the end, Del has access the Page household and they may not last Thanksgiving night.

Don Jon: Esther killed her family

In the 2013 drama, Don John, Esther (Julianne Moore) has been after John since they meet in night class. But we think she killed her husband and son and later took up with John. Is he Esther’s next man to die ‘accidently’.

Batman Begins – Alfred had the Waynes Killed

Who benefited most from the death of Thomas Wayne and his wife. Was it the traumatised Bruce? No. It was Alfred. His greed led him down the path to hire gangsters to terminate the lives of the Wayne parents and have custody of Master Bruce’s fortune. Alfred also worked with the Joker to kill Rachel Dawes.

John Wick killed his own wife in Lynchian Fashion

We only have John’s version of how his wife died, but John is a very violent man. Maybe he lost his temper one day. And more disturbingly, he wrote the letter to himself (or made Helen write it at gunpoint) and bought himself a new dog. Perhaps when the dog is killed, he is reminded of his horrible crime.
