If David Lynch directed Brokeback Mountain, you just know that Ennis killed Jack and blacked it out from his memory in true Lost Highway style. In Lynchian reality, Ennis is a homophobe, and the entire movie is imagined from his prison cell after he is convicted of a homophobic murder of Jack.

Then it turns out that Jack and Ennis never actually knew each other and that their times together were a dream sequence. 

The daughter who visits him at the end is the prison psychologist who desperately wants to get him into a hospital. Alma Beers De Mar is actually two people as a figment of Ennis’ imagination. One is blonde, and one is brunette. 

Finally, Ennis was an aspiring actor but it didn’t work out. Jack was a successful actor who dated the real life Alma. Should Ennis also turn into a different person mid-movie. Maybe. But just not anyone played by Balthazar Getty.
