Oppenheimer: The Video Game (and no Cillian)

The Pitch: Academy Award-winning movie Oppenheimer takes a new twist in the game world. Oppenheimer himself goes on missions because, without him, the game is toast. These missions include stealing important chemicals for the bomb, flying the mission himself, and blowing up Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But in a twist, Oppenheimer finds out that Harry Truman killed Roosevelt. Since we are dealing with ‘the bomb’ as they call it, you can’t really go too far on this one. It is ahistorical rubbish and unlikely to have any movie tie-in. But Herr Oppenheimer is a historical figure. Not an IP. There is a lot an indie studio can do here.
Why will Game Studies stay away? Because getting Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Junior into a sound booth would be impossible, so that kills about 80% of the idea. Another is that nobody really wants to admit that we would prefer Oppenheimer the action hero over Oppenheimer the lab geek. So an Oppenheimer video game would have to be a low-budget effort, moving away from the history and going straight to the explosion. There is just no other way about it. It would be 1.99 in the Playstation Store if we were lucky. And that means no cut scenes.
Our defence of the idea. If they can make a Monthy Python game, they can make this work too. Believe me? Here
