The Pitch: The sequel to the Kubrick classic Full Metal Jacket that we did not ask for or even want. Private Joker comes back from Vietnam to discover Gunnery Sergeant Hartman actually has a sister. After joking that the deceased Sergeant gave him permission, they strike up a romance. However, Hartman’s sister gets a terminal illness and begs Joker to end her suffering. Joker does it and gets that 1000-yard stare. We will need new actors for this because it is set shortly after the events of the first movie.
Why won’t it get made? Because Hartman’s sister could be anybody as we list here. She may have been a figment of the Gunny’s imagination. But what we do know is that Hartman made a promise, and a sequel is the only way to get it made. Unfortunately, the Vietnam War movie craze is over. It is a war with more fictional movies than factual documentaries at this stage. But has bad as this idea is, it will never be worse that Robert De Niro and Ed Harris in Jacknife, the quasi sequel to the Deer Hunter that left is all wanted to vomit and slowly die. We would at least be confident of making the 2 million dollars that Jacknife made and we would not need De Niro’s paycheck on job.
